X Change Gallery, Gloucester Green, Oxford
17-28 September 2002

Exhibition Panorama 2938 x 400 pixels (98k)

poster
The exhibition poster was made to locate the gallery using a GPS map of the city.
The spider hangs from the River Thames and was scribbled over Port Meadow.

In the centre of the room was the cardborad Model White Horse Hill
It was constructed specifically for this exhibition.

We displayed a variety of local GPS drawings along with various small doodles made on foot.
We also premiered the World's Biggest 'IF': an 863 km (537 mile) journey from Iffley in Oxford then past Ifield towards Iford and then through Ifold.

Sprawling map
To demonstrate the processes of GPS drawing we mapped our local journeys over the course of the show.
We constructed and updated a sprawling GPS map that charted our movements around the city.
The piece hung on a wall and was composed from about 70 computer prints that were all tiled and fixed together.

Algorithmic walking 21/09/02
We also conducted an algorithmic walk and recorded the results with three GPS receivers.
All setting off in different directions, we followed and repeated simple instructions e.g. [-1st Right -then- 2nd Left -then- 2nd Right -repeat-]

The session lasted for about 2 hours, the X on the map below marks the starting point from the gallery in Gloucester Green.
